Melis has over 20 years of experience in handling complex and high-value marine insurance claims with a prior background in shipping. She is an Executive Director at Howden heading marine claims team in London since 2024.  

Melis received her BA in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University in 2002 and completed her Masters in Shipping, Trade and Finance at City University in 2003.  Melis started her career in London with HSBC Insurance Brokers in 2004. She later joined BMS Group in 2008 where she had the role of servicing and managing, as the Claims Director, the handling of P&I, H&M, LOH, Charterer’s Liability, Bunkers and Marine Cargo claims of Clients predominantly from Germany, Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Denmark, USA and Canada.

In addition to her current role at Howden, she is the Chairperson of the LIIBA Marine Claims Sub-Committee and has qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and an Associate Member of the Association of Average Adjusters.
