Martin Barnes began his maritime career as a Marine Engineer in the Royal Navy during the 1980s. With a professional foundation forged in demanding operational environments, he has since led complex maritime incident responses around the globe. His leadership has been instrumental in high-profile cases including the MT Sounion (Red Sea), MV Ultra Galaxy (South Africa), MV OS35 (Gibraltar), and several major UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) operations.

Martin has supported Ambipar’s international response teams on significant deployments such as the MV Dali (Baltimore), MV Onego Traveller (Bahamas), and MV London 2012 (Brazil), as well as numerous large-scale industrial spill incidents.

When not deployed, Martin plays a key role in strengthening Ambipar’s UK marine response capability and promoting the company’s global services as part of the commercial team. He also provides specialist consultancy and investigative services for marine and offshore incidents.

Martin successfully delivered the UK MCA’s National Counter Pollution Stockpile Equipment Service, covering both the UK and Overseas Territories.

Professionally registered with the UK Engineering Council, he holds STCW certifications and small boat skipper qualifications, ensuring continued readiness for operational deployments. His global career spans marine, aviation, and logistics sectors—working with leading brands and managing teams across three continents.

A trusted expert in emergency response and engineering, Martin has also collaborated with the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop lifesaving processes for the transport industry. His extensive experience reflects a deep commitment to safety, operational excellence, and the stewardship of the marine environment.
